All These Update Reboots!

I have several components of Object Desktop (WindowBlinds, Curtains, Start10, Groupy, DeskScapes) but not the full suite.

Figured I'd post here instead of in one specific forum.

Is it possible to improve how these applications update so that they don't demand a reboot every single time?  Stop the services, even temporarily change the Windows theme to unload other assets, update, then put everything back?

I know some people wouldn't want all that graphical flash-banging but a "Try to update without reboot" option would be nice.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I believe, you can disable the "Automatically check for updates" on all of those. And only download and install new version by going to your account and download and install when you want it.

Basj, I think, You missed the point.

@SovereignGFC : 

I never had any issues with saying no to reboot and just reboot when all updates are finished.

Well, I though it is known that you don't need to reboot right the moment you finished installing your updates. You can reboot whenever you wish, just know that the new version will not take effect until you reboot.

Welp since you both didn't pick up on what I was getting at it speaks ill of my ability to ask a question. Is it possible to make the applications not need to ask to reboot at all (regardless of the ability to dismiss the request)?

For example, in "ye olden days" graphics drivers almost always needed a reboot.  Microsoft eventually said "NO ZOUP FOR YOU" and the GPU makers figured out a way to update drivers without reboots.

Can Stardock products be adapted in this fashion as well?

From what little I know on OS's and GUI application such as Windowblinds and Curtains, reboot is needed for the new updates to work properly with Windows system. The installers should only prompt for a reboot if files are in use.  Typically with a system wide app this means some process is holding onto the dll handle and thus the files are locked.  The app is probably sat in the background not responding hence the dll remains in process.  What app this is would be unknown as it would vary from system to system.

Because of this should a file be seen to be locked the installer has to schedule the replacement on reboot.

With regards to Curtains and WB, you would have to force every single universal app to close which wouldn't be popular at all when certain SD dll files get replaced as would not be a clean shutdown.

In short, if the installer asks for a reboot there is a good reason.  A reboot is only asked when there is an actual need for it.

TL;DR - My setup somehow has all of the apps in question in use (despite my thinking they might not be).  Therefore, I will always be prompted for reboots :/
